The bulk of my competitive fencing career was between 1967 and 1985 or so in Seattle, WA.  I fenced for Salle Auriol Seattle for many years. Since we were ramping up the Jr. Olympic program and I was teaching at the Boy’s club, I engaged Maestro Auriol for lessons in teaching fencing, to standardize what we were teaching in our division. I was an instructor in the US Army, as well as a certified flight instructor and both experiences have been useful during the 38+ years I’ve instructed fencing.  I was several years, division chairman, of the Western Washington Division, and very active in the national Jr. Olympic Program, from its inception.  I was also the Team Manager for the United States Jr. World Fencing Championships in Mexico City. For 14 years I was the coach of the Des Moines Boys/Girls Club “Cavaliers.” I also coached the Grande Ronde Fencing Club in LaGrande, Oregon.

Associate Coach: Magdy Conyd

Magdy Conyd is an inspiring fencer and master of the sword.  Nearly his entire life has been devoted to a competitive fencing.   He began his fencing education in Egypt, then later in Germany and other places in Europe, eventually immigrating to Canada and ultimately moving to Vancouver, B.C. He fenced both epee and foil for Canada in the Mexico City Olympic Games in 1968, and in Munich in 1972.  He has been my dearest friend and mentor for over 35 years, and we are lucky to have him as a member of the Fencibles, as well as a coach.  His intense style of teaching reflects his own dedication to the art.
