This is the left side pane and should be 2em off the top and bottom and be half the width of the window, and anchored to the left side of the window. With the text inside aligned to the right at the very top.

With the text inside aligned to the left starting at the top and continuing down. If it contains text taller then the container, then it should scroll. Just this frame should scroll, not the entire window.
